Brand Launch: Brass Beetle Media

When Ashley first reached out to me, she had a Pinterest mood board all ready to go. She wanted to find a designer that would understand her vision and where she wanted to take her brand. After reviewing what she had sent, I knew this project was going to be challenging; the bulk of it would be spent creating the custom illustration. But I was overwhelmed with excitement because I had been wanting to take on a project like this for a long time. I do a lot of illustrations, but none quite as detailed as this, which is why I knew it was going to be a fun challenge to take on!

Mood board

The mood board we had settled on had a bright, sophisticated feel. I was able to use these images to come up with her color palette, which she was dead set on a bright orange as well as green.

Refining the beetle

I think I speak for most designers when I say that rarely do we ever hit the nail on the head the first time around. And that's okay! Sometimes it takes collaboration to make something go from good to great. This is what happened during Ashley's design phase. Not only was I working on the detailed kumquat pattern, but I was also working on illustrating her symbol: the beetle.

I wanted to add detail but knew that since it was often going to be sized down, I didn't want to add too much detail. You can see how each refinement of the beetle lost more and more detail until I finally reached a very balanced option.

The results

All of the custom work that I put into Brass Beetle Media paid off. The results make Ashley's brand truly unique to her business. See how everything turned out here.
